Job Title: Communications Manager, contractor position

An office in Germantown, TN has an immediate opening for a Communications Manager, contractor (client-side) working for a leading manufacturer of consumer turf, lawn and garden products.  The initial contract will be for three to six months, with a possible one or more year extension.  The Communications Manager will work with the advertising agency and marketing managers to determine marketing strategies.  Knowledge of consumer retail and in particular, “Big Box” retail is favorable.  Familiarity with lawn and garden, turf and ornamental products is also desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with agency & marketing manager to determine marketing communications (marcom) strategies & tactics
  • Finalize media plans with agency & marketing manager
  • Review and proof mailers, ads, web content, etc for grammar, style, legal/mousetype, trademarking, messaging, positioning and content
  • Work with agency on tradeshow materials, presence, messaging
  • Develop e-blasts
  • Create and/or proof quicksheets
  • Maintain appropriate inventory at mail house (Avante) & monitor for obsolete pieces to remove from inventory   --what about just Maintain off-site inventory
  • Process and reconcile invoices, develop and maintain budgets, monitor profit and loss (P&L) monthly
  • Monitor greenhouse, nursery, turf and consumer publications
  • Send information notices to sales teams on marcom tactics/projects

 Requirements:

  • 6-10 years of communications experience either on the client side or with an advertising agency
  • B.A. degree in communications, advertising or public relations
  • Demonstrated experience developing and/or executing results-driven communications plans across various audience segmentations
  • Experience with financial management of projects and overseeing budgets
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, Microsoft Office experience (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) are necessary
