Osborn & Barr Communications is seeking an Association Director of Public Relations for their Kansas City, Missouri location. This position leads PR efforts and provides strategic public relations counsel to the clients. This includes informing/educating or preconditioning the marketplace for the client’s product or service and contributes toward integrated marketing communications. The major areas of emphasis include leading the PR effort in product publicity, media relations, reputation management, excessive training, issues/crises management and special events. This position interacts on a day-to-day basis with the client. Provides leadership for the team and is a resource to team members. Key areas of measurement include the client’s satisfaction level (quality, timelines and overall effectiveness).
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Responsible for day-to-day contact with the client, providing project updates, getting client direction and managing client budgets.
- Provides support and strategic counsel to the client by understanding client objectives and marketplace attitudes.
- Develops new business & expands current client business.
- Completes PR projects for clients.
- Completes special PR projects as required.
- Oversee planning and execution of client programs to meet business objectives, and grow existing business.
Knowledge and Skills
- Degree in communications or journalism.
- Seven to ten years prior experience in all facets of PR in an Agency, corporate or editorial setting.
- Issues management experience; Ag-to-consumer media relations experience.
- Agricultural background or relevant experience.
- Management skills to direct and develop other professionals.
- Financial/business skills necessary to contribute to the overall profitability of the Agency.
- Interpersonal and team skills to interact effectively with all parts of the Agency and with the clients’ businesses.
- Experience developing new business proposals and presentations to increase the agency’s sales/profitability.
- Overall management process skills to manage and innovate with systems and people.
- Flexibility and adaptability and agility to cope in a fast-paced, ever-changing business.
- Customer-friendly attitude to effectively interact within the agency and the clients.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and electronic mail.
