Job Title: Director of Communications
SUPERVISOR: Vice President, Communications
and Member Services
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Serves as primary staff writer and editor;
develops and implements communications activities to achieve organization's
strategic goals.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in journalism or communications
with five years related work experience. Position requires superior
writing, editing and proofreading skills teamed with ability to work
independently on assigned projects as well as initiative to identify,
research and develop story ideas and placements. Position requires creativity
and aptitude for writing on a broad range of subjects and for different
media, as well as ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Position requires thorough knowledge of Associated Press style, as well
as excellent organizational ability; computer skills, including desktop
publishing; and experience with Web publishing. Basic photography skills
also required.
POSITION RELATIONSHIPS: This position requires interaction with
staff in all program areas in the development and implementation of
editorial strategies and activities for the association. Position also
requires interaction with membership at multiple levels as well as external
sources in the covering of industry issues and association events.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as primary staff writer and editor.
- Assesses communication needs to enhance
program development and to increase the value and benefits to members.
- Manages news gathering, production and
dissemination through news releases, feature articles, newsletters,
brochures, reports, the Web site, press kits and other vehicles. Provides
related editorial support to all program areas.
- Works with trade press and other media
as required. Manages media lists.
- Develops and oversees implementation
of annual editorial calendar.
- Prepares and submits to supervisor a
monthly status report based on a review of budget-related activities,
expenditures and revenue.
- Works with supervisor to develop annual
program activity budget for ensuing fiscal year.
- Implements all related administrative
and financial responsibilities in accordance with USA Rice Federation
policy.
- Participates in educational efforts
to improve knowledge and skills.
- Completes other assignments as directed
