Matthew Sanders, Forrester Research
The rapid evolution of the Internet has resulted in a revolution in communications and business. In just a few years, this new medium has matured from merely providing electronic information to an interactive marketplace. The failure of Web start-up companies over the past year, however, suggests that finding success with e-business is much more complicated than selling products through a Web site. What are the characteristics of the winners and the mistakes of the failures?

Studies conducted by Forrester Research suggest that the food and agriculture industry is one of the leading industries best suited for e-commerce. Yet agriculture is characterized by an extensive, traditional distribution system. What future does this new business media promise for agriculture?

Matthew Sanders, analyst with Forrester Research, will explore the findings of Forrester's research into the development and future of e-commerce in the U.S. as well as around the world. He will take a look at a variety of industries, including the food and agriculture industry, and identify key trends, forces, and outlooks. He'll look at the differences between Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Consumer (B2C) e-market models, and outline the potential for B2B in agriculture. Sanders will also identify the five key interrelated services that are necessary for success in e-business and the types of e-marketplaces that will survive the next decade. This unique presentation will take a big picture look at this rapidly evolving business environment while providing practical information to help guide your e-business strategy.
