People are more likely to attend an event and join an association if they are personally invited and welcomed in by a current member. Send an email invitation with all the details of your event. A sample email is below. Also make the effort to follow up with a phone call or, if you see someone, an in-person invitation. (If you have the budget for a postcard mailing, then also send a postcard with a personal invitation.)
Sample Email: Hi [Name], I hope you are doing well!
I know you are busy, but I also know you want to learn more about agri-marketing and connect with great people in the industry. I’ve found the best way to do that is through the National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) and want to invite you to our upcoming event. [Insert event topic/activity, date, time and location.]
NAMA is a fun group to be a part of and it’s an amazing resource for me. I can’t imagine doing my job without it. [Insert a brief example of why NAMA is valuable to you such as a short story of being mentored, learning something that made your job easier, etc.]
I think you would enjoy being a member of NAMA and will find you get a lot out of it. I really hope you can come to this event.
Feel free to contact me if you have questions. I’m happy to talk and give you any information you need about this event or NAMA in general.
